Aker Arctic is a pioneer when it comes to operating ice-going vessels in arctic conditions – their story begins already in the 1930s. They specialize in development, design, engineering, consulting and testing services for ice-going vessels, icebreakers, offshore marine structures, marine transport solutions and ports. Operating a full-scale test facility in Helsinki, Aker Arctic and its predecessors have designed more than half of the world’s icebreakers.
The single most important factor in this renewal was taking a customer-centric approach to everything as Aker wanted to shift their old product-centered focus to be able to offer better suited content for their target groups. In addition, we modernised technical structures in order to make maintaining the website much easier.
As a part of the renewal process we ended making changes in the core of the business and as a result new solutions were created to answer needs that were recognised during the project. Utilising service design methods we were able to discover and highlight relevant content for key target groups.
WordPress was chosen as the publishing platform due to its ease of use, flexibility and effortless customisability. The site is handcrafted using Pixels’ starter theme as a starting point, and we made sure maintaining it is intuitive with movable page sections, for example.
